Gulf View Inn Exterior
Postcards: Sarasota History
An exterior view of the Gulf View Inn Siesta Key as seen from the Gulf of Mexico. This 1925 hotel was completed in just sixteen days! It was only built to last a short while and was to be used as a place of entertainment and housing for investors lured to the area. The exterior was Mediterranean Revial in style with the interior boasting a huntling lodge theme. It had cypress-timbered walls, tree-trunk pillars, a large coquina-rock fireplace and a pool with a fountain in the center of the lobby. Though elaborate plans were made to replace the temporary structure, it lasted for nearly 60 years. Today a condominium stands in its place.
